The earthquake that occurred on December 26, 2004 off the coast of Northwest Sumatra was one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded. There have been thousands of publications, reports, documentaries and even Hollywood movies made about this event, so we will not try to reproduce them here. If you are unfamiliar with this event, it may be best to just go to the Wikipedia page as a starting point. Other great resources are the event pages from the NOAA Center for Tsunami Research and the US Geological Survey.
On this page we will share information and links from Dr. Jose C. Borrero’s personal collection of stories, photos and data collected in the aftermath of this astounding event.
